Botox for Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis, is a common condition that afflicts about 3 percent of the population and can start at any age. Caused by overactive sweat glands, it is most problematic in the underarms and palms although other areas are sometimes involved. People with this unbearably sweaty condition can be be plagued by wet clothes, skin infections, a soggy handshake, social embarrassment, and a crisis of confidence.

For those who have tried dozens of antiperspirants and all of grandma’s home remedies with no success, there is a better solution. Botox! Usually thought of for cosmetics, Botox was approved by the FDA in 2004 for excessive underarm sweating and can be a welcomed, effective alternative for many patients.

Botox works by blocking the nerve signal that stimulates the overactive sweat glands resulting in reduced sweating in the treated areas. For the underarms, the average is about 40 to 50 units of Botox injected on each side. The improvement usually begins in a few weeks, can last up to 6 months, and can be repeated when needed. The procedure takes only about 10 minutes and is essentially painless.

I have always sweat excessively but, it tends to only be a problem on my face where it is obviously visible and my head. My face is continuously wet and my hair can get entirely wet underneath and around my neck. I do not have a problem under my arms, or atleast the deodorant I wear helps in that area. It is extremely embarrassing and uncomfortable, not to mention the amount of times I have to apply makeup throughout the day and night which is horrible on my skin and pores. Can any of your procedures help this problem? I am desperate for help.
