Hormone Therapy

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is the use of hormones to help resolve symptoms related to hormonal imbalance or decline in hormone production tied to aging. Certain hormone treatments are called “bioidentical” or sometimes “natural” because the types of hormones used are chemically identical (according to molecular studies) to those produced by the human body.

How It Works

To get started we have you come in for an Intake Appointment. You'll fill out a little paperwork and we’ll ask for a copy of your most recent PAP & Mammogram, then we’ll collect samples for your initial hormone testing.

You’ll come back once your test results return for your Consultation Appointment when Dr. Gill will review your test results with you and prescribe your treatment!

12 weeks later you’ll come back for a Follow Up Appointment. This is to check on your treatment progress and adjust your levels if necessary. If your hormone levels are adjusted during the Follow Up, we’ll have you back in another 3 months.

Once your treatment levels are set, you’ll have check up appointments every 6 months during which we’ll see how you’re doing and adjust anything if necessary.

Testing Requirements:

Women are required to bring PAP & Mammogram reports once yearly. Men must bring their PSA report once yearly.

Hormone Pellets

At Elamar we prefer the use of pellets for hormone therapy for their simplicity. Pellets are made of custom compounded hormones and natural binders to hold them together that are pressed into a solid compound that's about the size of a cooked grain of rice. They're inserted just beneath the skin in the hip or the stomach in a quick, painless procedure.

The key benefit of Pellet Therapy is that the pellets remain within the body and consistently provide the exact dosing that the body requires. This contrasts with other hormone replacement therapy administrations in which the hormone is provided in spurts, such as pills and creams, resulting in a rollercoaster effect of relief to discomfort for the patient. PLUS they are EASY; there's no remembering to take your hormones and no running to the pharmacy for refills.

In women, the pellets last 3 to 5 months; in men, 4 to 6 months.

If you decide not to go the pellet route, we can accommodate your preferred method of administration.

Are there any potential risks, side effects or safety concerns?

BHRT poses potential risks, including short-term side effects like indigestion or mood swings, along with possible heightened risk for conditions like cancer or stroke. The majority of side effects is temporary and typically only happens on the first dose. All are very treatable.

Do I have lab tests done before each treatment?

Not every time. Lab tests are done initially, when adjustments are made, and at least once per year.

Does it matter if I’m on birth control?

No, the Doctor can determine your hormone needs even if you’re on birth control.

What if I’ve had breast cancer?

Breast cancer survivors and/or those who have a history of breast cancer in their family may still be a candidate, however, this is to be determined by the physician. You should schedule a consultation with the Doctor.

How much does it cost?

You can get started for just $150. This includes your intake appointment, initial testing, return consultation appointment with Dr. Gill to set your levels, your 3 month follow up and anything else that is necessary to get your levels set correctly. The price is the same for both men and women, but does not include the price of the hormones.

6 Month Check-Ins are $100. This includes your appointment with Dr. Gill, testing, test review, and any adjustments that may be necessary.

Pellet Insertion for women is $375.

Pellet Insertion for men is $695.
