Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
What is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. It’s a liquid obtained by drawing a patient’s own blood, removing the red cells and concentrating the platelets.
Platelets are tiny blood cells that play a crucial part in helping your body repair damaged blood vessels and cells.
For example, let’s say you’ve scraped your arm enough to draw some blood to the skin. When platelets in your blood come in contact with the damaged tissue they release growth factors (proteins that stimulate growth).
These growth factors activate multipotent stem cells in your skin that transform into new collagen, new blood vessels, and new fatty tissue that work together to generate new skin and repair your scrape!
It works the same way in cosmetics, except there is no injury to begin with.
For example, by injecting PRP into undamaged skin, we trick your skin into “thinking” there’s been an injury.
New blood vessels form and blood flow to your skin increases resulting in healthier, glowing skin. New collagen and fatty tissue are produced that restore volume and smooth texture to your skin.
Your body is working to “repair” skin that was never injured in the first place, resulting in new, younger-appearing skin.
How Can PRP Be Used?
PRP Can Be Added On to Other Cosmetic Services
PRP can optionally be added on to many procedures, such as: Microneedling (making it the Vampire® Facial), or almost any laser procedure.
Adding PRP to other treatments will enhance the benefits and significantly reduce any side effects while speeding up the recovery process.
